This project is a long-term research project exploring objects from the field of cultural anthropology. Diane Hymans initiated its development with a series of bowling pins, presented in a tension between use, archive, and form.

Large-format photography structures the installation. The interplay of scale reveals forms, surfaces, polychromy, and traces of wear, lending the objects, isolated against colored backgrounds, a sculptural dimension. In the absence of any descriptive text, the meaning remains open. The bowling pins escape their original context and evoke a contemporary archaeology, where the object oscillates between vestige, artifact, and visual fiction. The museum presentation is conceived as a material in its own right. Display cases, pedestals, lighting, and support devices all contribute to the construction of the image and influence how the object is presented, poised between archive and icon.
